Defeat for Wolves moves Birmingham into top slot whilst ten men Barnsley come from behind to win their second game of the season.

Barnsley 4 v Doncaster 1

Ten man Barnsley scored four second half goals but the win is not enough to lift them out the bottom three. A Brian Stock penalty had put the visitors ahead in the 11th minute, before strikes from Stephen Fosters, Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Jonathan Macken and Iain Humesecured the points after Darren Moore was dismissed for a professional foul shortly after the restart.

Birmingham 1 v QPR 0

Kevin Phillips claimed his fourth goal of the season right on the stroke of half time to take Birmingham top of the table. The former West Brom striker scored from close range to secure all three points for the Blues against a disappointing QPR side.

Blackpool 1 v Cardiff 1

On loan Alan Gow, struck deep into injury time to rescue a point for Blackpool. Paul Parry looked to have earned the points for Cardiff with a curling shot in the 83rd minute before Gow’s 25-yard wonder strike.

Charlton 2 v IpswichTown 1

Hameur Bouazza scored on the hour mark to give Charlton their third home win of the season. A superb Nick Bailey free-kick had given the home side the lead in the 6th minute, but a Martin Cranie own goal after 34 minutes drew the sides level.

NorwichCity 1 v DerbyCounty 2

DerbyCounty extended their unbeaten run to six games with a win over Norwich at Carrow Road. The Rams took the lead through Rob Hulse before being reduced to 10 men in the 51st minute when keeper Roy Carroll was dismissed after felling Leroy Lita in the area. Sammy Clingan converted the resulting penalty before Nathan Ellington struck his fourth goal of the season late on.

NottinghamForest 0 v CrystalPalace 2

CrystalPalace recorded the first win in seven away games to leave Forest rooted to the bottom of the table. Paul Iffill gave Palace the lead after four minutes before Shefki Kuqi sealed the victory with nine minutes to play.

Plymouth 4 v Sheffield Wednesday 0

Plymouth climb to fifth in the table after a four goal rout over Sheffield Wednesday. A Mark Beevers own goal on the quarter hour mark put them ahead before Paul Gallagher, and Jamie Mackie saw them go into the break three goals to the good. Marcel Seip rounded things off late on.

Reading 3 v Burnley 1

Reading extended their unbeaten run to 9 games and took their goal scoring tally at home to 22 in five games. A goal apiece for the Hunt brothers, Noel and Stephen sent them in two up at half time. Shane Long added a third after 64 minutes before Chris McCann hit a late consolation for Burnley.

Sheff Utd 3 v BristolCity 0

James Beattie grabbed two goals to maintain Sheff Utd’s unbeaten home record. The South Yorkshire side sealed the points in the second half with a Liam Fontaine goal to take them up to fourth.

Swansea 3 v Wolverhampton 1

Wolves drop into second place after goals from Jordi Gomez and two from Jason Scotland earned Swansea all three points at the Liberty Stadium. Gomez gave the Swans an early lead before Andrew Keogh equalised after 16 minutes, but two Scotland strikes capped an impressive performance by Swansea.

Watford 2 v Preston 1

Tommy Smith’s 50th goal for Watford was enough to give them maximum points at home to Preston. The Hornets fell behind to a Sean St. Ledger goal after five minutes before Jon Harley leveled the score shortly after with his first goal in two years. When the chance came to Smith in the 21st minute when he hammered the ball home to give Watford all three points.
