Mark Hughes became the envy of the Premier League late last night, as he gave the green light on Adebayor's transfer despite late interest from Chelsea.

Emmanuel Adebayor sealed his £25 million move to Manchester City last night, and signed a 5-year, £150 000/week contract to become the latest player to join the Eastlands revolution.

The striker's immediate assignment will be to impress upon his new boss that he is worth a starting place in the team's first eleven by outshining the likes of fellow new signings Carlos Tevez, and Roque Santa Cruz. Throw into the mix the likes of samba sensation; Robinho, the maturing Craig Bellamy and the Bulgarian International, Bojinov it will be understandable why Mark Hughes might on occasion leave him out.

Adebayor made to feel 'Special'

The Togo International was greeted by a host of excitable fans on his arrival to the City of Manchester Satadium yesterday.

He told City's official website: "It made me feel really welcome and special and I can't wait to play for City's fans and show them what I can do,"

"I was born to play football and that is what I want to do. I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters. It what the chairman and the manager told me that they want too and I can't wait to get started."

Player Profile

Arsenal signed Adebayor from Monaco in January 2006 for a modest £7 million, a relatively unknown quantity at the time, though he was part of Arsene Wenger's revered, and hugely successful scouting process. While at Arsenal, he gradually rose to the fore and cemented a place in the team alongside Thierry Henry and scored 62 goals in142 games. His most successful season was the 2007-08 campaign when he scored 30 goals.

In recent months he has been plagued by injuries, and was the subject of much criticism from Arsene Wenger and the fans for showing a lack of commitment, and flirting with Ac Milan last Summer.

Hughes Delighted By Latest Acquisition

Mark Hughes was understandably pleased to finalise his pursuit of Adebayor, as the curtain came down on a spectacular week of drama at Eastlands.

He told City's official website: "Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has agreed to come and join us,"

He continued:"Along with the other signings we have made in the last two windows he will greatly enhance our ability to compete with the top sides.

"His arrival is another clear indication that we are determined to augment the players we have here with the best of international talent.

"He adds vital balance and power to our attack. He has everything a top forward needs. He is versatile, powerful, quick and agile on the ball.

"I am looking forward to working with him as are the rest of the staff. He will definitely add a new dimension to our play. I have been a great admirer for a long time."

City's Financial Muscle Puts Them In League Of Their Own

Manchester City's unprecedented level of wealth has fashioned a new dawn of spending in football, as the owner, Sheikh Mansour seeks to propel them to the pinnacle of world football. Mansour who also owns the Abu Dhabi Development and Investment Group has a bottom-less pit of money and is keen to turn Manchester City into a Worldwide Brand.

With City having already failed twice with bids to sign Chelsea and England Captain; John Terry, they certainly boast an embarrassment of riches to prise him away. For now though at least, they will have to make do with Gareth Barry, Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez, and their latest recruit; Emmanuel Adebayor. An impressive repertoire for a team who failed to qualify for Europe last season.
