Queens Park Rangers V Cardiff CityGavin Mahon Header Gives Rangers 1-0 Win as Cardiff Down to Nine men
Dave Jones launched a scaving attack on match official Lee Probert claiming his team were 'playing against the referee' on their visit to Loftus Road on Saturday.
Jones watched his side go down to nine men and suffer their first defeat away from home this season, a Gavin Mahon header with ten minutes to go enough to give QPR victory and leave the Bluebirds deflated. "The players were gutted and I didn't know what to say to them." Cardiff manager David Jones told the South Wales Echo. "We talk about respect in the game, but there is no respect. He (Referee Lee Probert) has not respected my players and the decisions he made were scandalous. "It feels like we were playing against the tide." David Jones' outburst will get him in trouble with the FAWIn an outburst that will surely get Jones in trouble with the FAW, the Bluebirds have a right to feel so aggrieved about finishing the game with only nine men. Miguel Comminges was given two quick fire bookings late on and Darren Purse was given a red card for an innocuous challenge on Lee Cook on the half hour mark, many in the ground surprised to see referee Probert reach for his back pocket. Cardiff up to this point had dominated the game, Michael Chopra getting his first sight of goal in the 12th minute firing an angled drive wide of Radek Cerny's right post. QPR looked to take advantage of the generous red card and pressed forward following the dismissal but for the most part failed to capitalise on the extra man. Cardiff still pushed forward despite Darren Purse's red cardDespite being down to ten men the Bluebirds still showed a willingness to get forward and win the game. "I can't fault my players," said David Jones "Even with 10 players we came out with the ball and tried to play good football." City played well despite being down to ten men but eventually the extra man proved crucial as with ten minutes left in the game, Gavin Mahon headed home a Peter Ramage cross to give the R's victory, Cardiff simply outnumbered in the box as the cross came in. Five minutes later it got worse for the Bluebirds as Miguel Commingles was given his marching orders, receiving two quick fire bookings, the first for a hard tackle and the second for back chatting the referees assistant. Chopra Makes his Second Cardiff DebutThis was a frustrating game for Cardiff summed up by Dave Jones' outburst after the game, but even when down to nine men the Bluebirds still looked for an equaliser, Michael Chopra, making his second debut for the Bluebirds, having a clear penalty denied late on to sum up the game for City. Chopra did not have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on his return, his chances marred by the sending off of Purse, being left to occupy a lone role up front after the captain's dismissal. He will however be looking forward to facing Crystal Palace this Saturday, returning to Ninian Park hoping to push the Bluebirds to a much needed victory after two defeats on the bounce.
