Alan Shearer has moved quickly to quash any potential rumours of a return to Newcastle as manager after stand-in manager Joe Kinnear suggested he was a likely candidate.
The short-term Magpies manager Joe Kinnear recently added fuel to the burning rumour that Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan were set to form a managerial double act at St James' Park, however one part of this potential duo has not taken any time in stating his lack of desire for this job. When asked if the reports held truth, Shearer told on Match of the Day: "None whatsoever, I don't know where that's come from at all. Don't know what they're talking about." Shearer also admitted his surprise at former Wimbledon manager, Kinnear's appointment: I was as surprised as anybody was that he (Joe Kinnear) was appointed. Judging by his interviews it looks like he's a little bit embarrassed himself," added Shearer. "But it's a great opportunity for him - he's in a no-lose situation." South Africans Interested in NewcastleBritish based South African tycoons are looking like the front runners for any potential takeover bid, with a £350million bid being put together, however thus far no formal meeting has been held. A spokesperson told the News of the World: "We are serious about Newcastle, we believe they are an iconic institution who deserve to be run professionally" With American owner looking to sell as soon as possible, a deal would look likely if the South Africans do indeed get the money together. If they did take over the Geordie club they insist they'd keep the fans happy and re-instate former manager Kevin Keegan. They said: "Kevin is integral to our plans. We want Kevin to be fully committed to the team and we hope to find a role for Alan Shearer." Newcastle 1-2 BlackburnNewcastle's misery continued against Balckburn Rovers. After being dumped out of the Carling Cup by Tottenham on Wednesday in front of a diminutive crowed, the Magpies week got worse when the now full St James Park had to endure a torrid first half display. Newcastle were already 2-0 down after goals from Christopher Samba and Roque Santa Cruz. Newcastle's defending of these goals was comical at best. For a brief moment the dark clouds lifted, when Michael Owen thrashed a Penalty past Jason Brown in the Blackburn goal after a foul from Ryan Nelsen. Newcastle made a brief attempt to salvage a point yet even when they should have been all guns blazing, the majority of the players looked nonchalent and even lazy, with Michael Owen doing what a captain should do and urging his team forward. The dark clouds returned shortly though as the final whistle was blown and Newcastle had lost yet another game.
