Summer Transfers Involving SPL Clubs

A busy pre-season for the 12 Scottish Premier League Teams

It's been the usual flurry of activity in Scotland in the build-up to the SPL kick-off on the weekend of 9th/10th of August. Can anyone stop Celtic making it 4-in-a-row?

Another SPL season is nearly upon us, and the 12 clubs remain busy on the transfer front. While none of the clubs, including the Old Firm of Celtic and Rangers are unable to spend the large amounts that their English Premiership counterparts have the luxury of, most have made at least one major signing. Here is a breakdown of the transfer wheeling and dealing to date that has taken place since the end of last season in anticipation for the fresh start in SPL season 2008-2009:

ABERDEEN

Transfer Facts:

  • The largest disclosed transfer fee of the summer involved the signing of Kyle Lafferty by Rangers from Burnley for a fee of £3 Million.
  • Kenny Miller completes a remarkable return to Ibrox following a seven year exile which included a season spell at Old Firm rivals Celtic. His first period at Rangers lasted from July 2000 to November 2001.
  • Giorgios Samaras played for Celtic last season on loan from Manchester City, scoring 6 times and helping the hoops win the SPL for the 3rd season in a row. He has now made the move permanent.
