Manchester United,Arsenal and Chelsea Win in League Title Battle

Today's results in the Premier League see a continuation of the three-way battle for the the league title as Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea win.

In today’s Premier League results, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea continued their three-way battle for the league title with away wins at Reading, Fulham and Birmingham.

Reading 0 Manchester United 2 (H-T: 0-0)

Manchester United remain top after two late goals from Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo denied Reading and brought about their fifth home defeat of the season. Ronaldo’s goal came late into added on time as Reading pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Fulham 0 Arsenal 3 (H-T: 0-2)

Arsenal had a more comfortable day at Craven Cottage where two first half headed goals from Emmanuel Adebayorset up them up for victory. Tomas Rosicky who hit the post after half-time scored the third with ten minutes remaining.

Birmingham City 0 Chelsea 1 (H-T: 0-0)

Chelsea who had Nicolas Anelka in their starting line-up had to wait until late in the second half to score the only goal of the game. Striker Claudio Pizarro headed the goal from a corner with tem minutes left. While Chelsea had much of the possession, they struggled to shake off a determined home side.

Portsmouth 3 Derby County 1 (H-T: 2-1)

Portsmouth found themselves a goal down against bottom side derby County when they scored after four minutes through Lewin Nyatanga. However, Benjani equalised after 38 minutes, Portsmouth’s first home league goal since they scored seven against Reading in September. He added a second before half-time and completed his hat-trick after the interval.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Sunderland 0 (H-T: 1-0)

‘Tottenham got away with that’ sums up their performance. A weakened team had the perfect start when Aaron Lennon scored the opening goal inside two minutes. They had further chances before half-time but after the break Sunderland increasingly threatened to score and only in injury time did Spurs secure victory when Robbie Keane score his 100th goal for the club.

Blackburn Rovers 0 Middlesbrough 1 (H-T: 0-1)

Middlesbrough took an early first half lead when defender David Wheater headed in from a free-kick. He also hit the bar as the visitors created further chances. However, substitute Matt Derbyshire scored an undeserved equaliser for Blackburn with under fifteen minutes remaining.

Newcastle United 0 Bolton Wanderers 0 (H-T: 0-0)

Kevin Keegan's second spell as manager of Newcastle United didn't start with the exciting football people had been expecting. In a scoreless game, the visitors were the more assured side in a rather dull first half. While Keegan's side showed more endeavour after the interval, they rarely threatened a well organised and determined Bolton team. The draw ends Newcastle's sequence of four consecutive defeats but gives them only two points from their last six games. Keegan has a big task ahead of him to restore Newcastle United.

Wigan Athletic 1 Everton 2 (H-T: 0-2)

Everton move into fourth place in the league, ahead of Liverpool, after their comfortable win. Two first half goals, just before half-time, from Andrew Johnson and Joleon Lescott put Everton in control and they survived an early set-back after the interval when Phil Jagielka conceded an own goal.

Manchester City 1 west Ham United 1 (H-T: 0-0)

West Ham took an early lead through Carlton Cole following a mistake by the City captain, Richard Dunne. City quickly equalised through Darius Vassell. West Ham deserved their point, Sven Goran-Eriksson's side being unable to repeat the victory achieved in the mid-week FA Cup replay.
